Namita Agrawal was born on 1 February 1969 in Cuttack to Lakshmidhar Das and Annadamanjari Das. She grew up in a spiritually enriched family environment deeply connected to Odisha's devotional traditions.

Her ancestral roots trace back to Nemala, a historic region associated with the saint-poet Achyutananda Das. These cultural and spiritual influences played a significant role in shaping her future.

At the age of just five, she began learning traditional Jagannath bhajans from her grandfathers, Late Kashinath Das and Late Dasarathi Das. These early lessons planted the seeds of a lifelong devotion to music and spirituality.

🎼 Classical Music Training

At the age of eight, Namita began formal training in Odissi music, Chhanda, and Champu under Guru Akhil Kumar Lenka.

Over the years, she continued her musical education under several renowned gurus, including Kumari Niroj Nalini Kuanr, Ramani Ranjan Jena, Bishwanath Rao, Harmohan Khuntia, Deepak Basu, Nitai Sinha, and Sunakar Sahu.

🎙️ Beginning of Her Singing Career

Namita Agrawal's professional journey began remarkably early. At only ten years old, she started singing as a child artist for All India Radio (Akashvani), Cuttack.

By the age of sixteen, she had become an officially recognized artist of All India Radio. In 1989, she entered private music recording studios, marking the beginning of her rise as one of Odisha's most beloved singers.

Her dedication, discipline, and unmistakable voice quickly distinguished her from her contemporaries.

In 1992, Namita married sound engineer and media entrepreneur Sitaram Agrawal, who was then actively involved in the Odia music industry through JE Cassette Company.

After marriage, Namita Das became popularly known as Namita Agrawal. The couple welcomed twin sons, Sidharth and Sarthak, in 1993.

Together, they would go on to build one of the most influential media empires in Odisha.

🛕 Rise as Odisha's Devotional Music Icon

Namita Agrawal's greatest popularity came through devotional music. Her first devotional cassette, "Ajhatia Kalia", released in 1992, became immensely popular among devotees of Lord Jagannath.

Over the following decades, she recorded hundreds of devotional songs dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Krishna, Goddess Lakshmi, and numerous Hindu deities.

📖 Sampurna Bhagabata: A Historic Achievement

One of Namita Agrawal's most remarkable contributions to Odia culture is her complete recording of the sacred Sampurna Odia Bhagabata, written by Atibadi Jagannath Das.

After years of preparation and dedication, she became the first artist to record all twelve Skandas and 367 chapters of the Bhagabata.

🌾 Reviving the Laxmi Purana

In 1993, Namita Agrawal and singer Geeta Dash became the first artists to record the complete Laxmi Purana in both audio and video formats.

Written by Balarama Das, the Laxmi Purana holds immense spiritual significance in Odia households, especially during the month of Margashira.

Their effort helped preserve and popularize this timeless cultural treasure.

🎶 Hrudayara Gita

Another landmark contribution came through Hrudayara Gita, a collection of nearly 100 devotional songs based on works by Odisha's greatest saint-poets.

The project featured compositions from Jagannath Das, Balaram Das, Salabega, Sarala Das, and other literary giants.

By blending traditional melodies with modern recording technology, Namita ensured these spiritual treasures remained relevant to contemporary audiences.

🎵 Film Songs & Modern Music

Although devotional music remains her primary identity, Namita Agrawal also found success in modern Odia songs and playback singing.

Under the stage name Nibedita, she recorded romantic songs, modern albums, and film tracks, expanding her reach beyond devotional audiences.

Her first modern music cassette was released in 1996 and further showcased her versatility as an artist.
