History of Hanuman Chalisa

Hanuman Chalisa was written by Goswami Tulsidas about four hundred years ago in the 16th century. You will be surprised to know that he wrote this hymn in the Mughal prison named Fatehpur Sikri. So the story begins like this, when the miraculous exploits of Tulsidas were spreading all around, the Mughal emperor Akbar called to meet him. The king orders him to show some miracles. Tulsidas replied, I do not do any miracle, all miracles are done by Lord Shri Rama. Akbar was very angry with this answer and he imprisoned Tulsidas in Fatehpur Sikri. During this period of imprisonment, the great Hanuman Chalisa was written.

He wrote 40 slokas of Hanuman Chalisa for 40 days and recited it every day. The story tells that on the fortieth day an army of monkeys attacked Fatehpur Sikri and injured all the soldiers. When the king came to know about this, he immediately called Tulsidasji to the palace and apologized for his mistake. Akbar made sure that there would be no such treatment on the part of the king from now on. All this is the story of how the great Hanuman Chaliya got to the world.
