Roots in Sambalpur

Born as Jhasketan Chhuria on 7 August 1997, Mantu grew up in Salat village near Rengali in Sambalpur district. Raised by his parents Judhistir and Sobhagini Chhuria alongside his brothers Rajinikanth and Pintu, he was immersed in the vibrant cultural atmosphere of western Odisha from an early age.

For a child growing up in Sambalpur, music was not merely entertainment—it was part of everyday life. Folk melodies, dhol rhythms, and devotional gatherings shaped his artistic instincts long before he entered a recording studio.

"The rhythms of Sambalpur became the heartbeat of his future."

Kirtans, Classrooms & First Opportunities

Mantu studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sambalpur, where music teacher Gyana Ranjan Mohapatra recognized and nurtured his talent. Yet some of his most important lessons came outside the classroom.

Village kirtans became his earliest performance stages. It was during one such devotional gathering that Khirod Nayak and Bapi Singh heard him sing and immediately recognized his potential. They introduced him to professional recording opportunities and gave him the chance to record Bihu, the song that became his first breakthrough.

Career Turning Point
The success of Bihu transformed Mantu Chhuria from a talented village performer into a rising star of Sambalpuri music.

Education & Technical Training

Beyond performing, Mantu invested heavily in understanding music as a craft. After studying at Gangadhar Meher College, he pursued a Diploma in Sound Engineering from the Biju Pattanaik Film & Television Institute of Odisha (BPFTIO).

This technical knowledge would later help him evolve beyond singing and become an accomplished music director and producer.

The Breakthrough That Changed Sambalpuri Music

Once his career gained momentum, Mantu released a string of blockbuster hits that redefined the commercial potential of Sambalpuri music.

Tracks such as Selfi Bebo, Sambalpuria Babu, Desi Pila, Jigar Bala, and Rasia became cultural phenomena, earning millions of views and introducing Sambalpuri music to audiences across India.
