Born Into Music: Early Life in Dhenkanal

Aseema Panda was born on 25 October 1991 in Dhenkanal, Odisha, into a culturally rich Brahmin family. Her journey into music began remarkably early — at just four years of age.

While watching her cousins learn music under Guru Prafulla Kumar Sahoo, young Aseema naturally absorbed lessons, melodies, and classical notes. Her father quickly recognized her extraordinary ability and enrolled her in formal Odissi music training while she was still in primary school.

Alongside academics at Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Dhenkanal, music became the center of her life. She later pursued a postgraduate degree in Odissi and Hindustani Music from Sambalpur University, giving her artistic talent a strong classical foundation.

"Before Odisha discovered her voice, music had already discovered her."

A Foundation Built on Classical Music

Aseema's musical education was deeply rooted in Odisha's classical traditions. Under Guru Prafulla Kumar Sahoo, she mastered Odissi music, while Guru Artatrana Bhola refined her understanding of Hindustani classical music and devotional compositions.

A defining moment arrived during Dhenkanal's famous Rath Yatra Bhajan Samaroh. Her performance impressed renowned composer Manmath Mishra so profoundly that he offered her the opportunity to record professionally under Sarthak Music while she was still in Class VI.

The Debut That Changed Everything

Aseema considers her true breakthrough to be "Phagu Phagu Ei Akashe" from the film Kichhi Khata Kichi Mitha (2011). The song introduced her voice to Odia cinema audiences and quickly became a hit.

Her formal Ollywood breakthrough followed with Hari Om Hari (2013), establishing her as one of the industry's most promising female playback singers.
